5 Jun 2008   Listening Books Wishes A Fond Farewell To Their Deputy Director   
After just over seven great years here, I have decided it’s time for me to move on from Listening Books.This was not an easy decision as I fully support the charity’s work and have loved being part of the Listening Books community. I am going to miss all the staff and members very much. My thanks to everyone who has made my time here so enjoyable.I am going on to the National Autistic Society where I have taken on the role of Membership and Branches Manager.I wish everyone involved with the charity all the best of luck. Listening Books will always remain close to my heart.Sam

13 Feb 2008   Listening Books Supports The National Year of Reading   
To show our support for The National Year of Reading, Listening Books is offering 50 FREE internet streaming memberships to the first 50 individuals, schools or organisations who contact us and mention The National Year of Reading. All members must be unable to read or hold a book due to illness or disability.

10 Nov 2007   National Year of Reading 2008   
The 2008 National Year of Reading will be a celebration of the power of reading and will bring together the business, education, public, community and voluntary sectors to promote reading for purpose and pleasure. Listening Books will be supporting the National Year of Reading in a number of specific ways and will publicise our activities on this website. 24 Apr 2007   The CILIP Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Children's Book Awards.   
The CILIP Carnegie & Greenaway shortlist has been anounced for 2007. Voted for by Children's Librarians, there are two awards; the Greenaway for the best illustrations in a children's book and the Carnegie for an outstanding book for children & young people. You can now buy Christmas cards exclusively designed by author and illustrator Raymond Briggs, best known for ‘The Snowman’ and ‘Father Christmas’. This year Listening Books will be at stand 37 at the Special Needs London exhibition on 20th & 21st October. We will be giving demonstrations of audiobooks that can be streamed via our website, as well as offering some exciting news on the changes at Listening Books.

Happy Birthday Roald Dahl! On 13th September 2006, Roald Dahl, one of the most popular writers of children’s fiction, would have celebrated his 90th birthday. Listening Books has a new Education & Membership Officer who will be looking after our Sound Learning initiative. Please contact Louise Powell with any education queries or to recommend educational texts that we might stock. Louise will be focusing on expanding the membership of individuals who would benefit from receiving Listening Books to help with their studies as well as ensuring that our library is kept up to date with books that support the national curriculum and growing the number of titles we make available for audio streaming. The final year of the three year pilot phase of Sound Learning is drawing to an end and we are now focusing on expanding the initiative on a wider scale.
